Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how CalBite handles information when you use the CalBite iOS app. CalBite is provided by SeekWithin. CalBite is designed as a local-first meal, nutrition, water, fasting, weight, and habit tracking app.

By using CalBite, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the app.

2. Information CalBite processes

CalBite may process the following information to provide app functionality:

  • Profile information you enter, such as name, age, height, weight, activity level, goals, diet preferences, meal schedule, fasting settings, and water goals.
  • Meal records, ingredients, calorie and macro estimates, nutrition scores, water logs, weight logs, fasting sessions, reminders, and app settings.
  • Meal photos you capture with the camera or select from your photo library.
  • Sign in with Apple information, if you choose to sign in, such as Apple user identifier, name, and email address where provided by Apple.
  • Subscription information provided by Apple StoreKit, such as whether your CalBite Plus subscription is active, expired, in trial, or restored.
  • Basic diagnostic information that Apple or the App Store may provide for crash reporting and app reliability.

3. How information is used

CalBite uses this information to:

  • Calculate calorie, macro, hydration, fasting, and habit progress.
  • Recognize meals from photos or text descriptions and create editable meal records.
  • Save your profile, goals, reminders, subscription state, and app preferences.
  • Sync supported app data across your own Apple devices through iCloud/CloudKit.
  • Provide customer support and troubleshoot bugs or crashes.

4. AI meal recognition and Google Gemini

When you use AI meal recognition, CalBite sends the meal photo or text description you provide to Google Gemini through Google's Generative Language API so the app can estimate food name, ingredients, calories, macros, fiber, highlights, score, and confidence.

Photos are downscaled before upload for recognition. CalBite does not use meal photos for advertising or tracking. AI estimates can be inaccurate and should be reviewed and edited by you.

5. Local storage, iCloud, and CloudKit

CalBite stores your app data locally on your device using Apple platform storage. If iCloud is available for your Apple ID, supported CalBite records may be mirrored to your private iCloud CloudKit database so they can sync across your devices.

Meal photo files are stored locally on the device. CalBite's current design does not sync the original photo files through CloudKit, although meal records may include a local photo reference.

6. Subscriptions and purchases

CalBite Plus subscriptions are processed by Apple through StoreKit and your Apple ID. We receive subscription entitlement information from Apple so the app can unlock paid features, restore purchases, and display subscription state. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

7. Third-party services

CalBite may rely on the following third-party or platform services:

  • Apple iOS, App Store, StoreKit, Sign in with Apple, iCloud, CloudKit, and Apple push notification services.
  • Google Gemini / Google Generative Language API for AI meal recognition when you submit a meal photo or text description.
  • Apple-provided crash, diagnostic, or App Store operational services, where enabled by Apple.

8. Tracking and advertising

CalBite does not sell your personal information. CalBite does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising purposes.

9. Data deletion

You can delete your CalBite data in the app from Profile or Settings, under Account or Advanced, by choosing Delete account. This deletes CalBite records stored locally and requests deletion of CalBite records mirrored through iCloud/CloudKit. CalBite also cancels scheduled notifications and removes local meal photo files managed by the app.

You may also delete the app from your device. Some iCloud data may remain in your private iCloud account until deleted through the app, iCloud settings, or Apple's iCloud data controls.

10. Health and nutrition disclaimer

CalBite is a habit and nutrition tracking tool, not a medical device or medical service. AI meal recognition and nutrition estimates may be incomplete or inaccurate. Do not use CalBite as a substitute for professional medical, nutrition, or diet advice.

11. Children's privacy

CalBite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through CalBite, contact us and we will take appropriate action.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes may also be surfaced in the app where appropriate.
